Measuring Leaves, Gathering Trees

(nothing has been measured)

Measuring Leaves, Gathering Trees is an attempt to capture a piece of nature, to transport that piece of nature to another space, and the eventual realisation that the experience of being in a place can never be fully captured.

Through different methods, both digital and physical, we tried to distill the essential elements of a piece of the Meinerswijk nature area in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

    Index of techniques utilized
    • Texture map of 3d scanned tree, rendered on a 2d plane and printed on translucent fabric
    • Ipad with custom metal frame, displaying rotating 3D models of scanned assets
    • Small MP3 device, playing fieldrecordings
    • Arduino LCD Screen, displaying collected images
    • Wooden 1m2 grid, 10x10cm squares, neon rope, engraved with woodburned poem (Gathering Leaves by Robert Frost)
    • Custom yardstick, 1M, with 10cm intervals (red & white)
    • Diffuser with homemade aroma, derived from leaves found on-site
    • Collection of objects found in Meinerswijk (leaves, twigs, rocks, trash, moss, misc.)

Project made in collaboration with Isaac van den Aker & Philipp Steinkellner
